More bands than ever Saturday at Bonestock 8

By Liz Ellis, Reporter

What started as a few hundred people listening to some local bands perform on a flatbed truck has, eight years later, expanded to three full stages and 15 bands performing over the course of a day.

Bonestock 8, hosted by the rock radio station, Z95, is scheduled for Saturday at Ray Clinton Park. Gates open to the public at 11 a.m. and the music performances will start at 1 p.m. This year’s event will feature bands from the Southeast Missouri area and all over, including Northeast Arkansas, Mississippi, the Bootheel and even a nationally touring band, Emphatic.

“We’re gonna have a punk band, we’ve got straightforward rock bands, Southern rock… Hard rock and metal and Black River blues,” said Randy Bailey, program director for Z95. “There’s something for everyone’s taste. If you listen to ‘The Bone’ and call yourself a bonehead, you’re gonna have the time of your life.”

Bands attending this event include: Headley Grange, Starroy, Damnation Alley, Crashing Broadway, Disgruntled Bastards, Black River Blues, The Bid Idea, Chillyrose, Past Time, Pentoxide, Lordchain, Emphatic, Brookroyal, Fallen Within and Powdermill.

“We have a lot of talented musicians here in our area and it’s a treat to be able to provide a great venue like Bonestock for our listeners,” said Chris Berger, afternoon DJ for Z95.

In addition to music, many of the bands will also be offering copies of their CDs and other merchandise at the event.

But, if great music and merchandise from your favorite local bands is not enough of a motivator, funds raised from Bonestock will go toward supporting two local charities—SEMO Food Bank and Ozark Family Resource Agency. Every year, Bailey said, the radio station chooses a couple of different charity groups to support. In the past they have donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Poplar Bluff, Animal Welfare Alliance, Haven House and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, to name a few.

“Over the past seven years we’ve raised over $40,000 for local charities,” Berger said. “If you enjoy live, local music, food and merchandise then this is your cup of tea as well.

Food vendors attending the event include The Branding Iron, Windy City Hot Dogs, The All Good Grill and Mayas.

Tickets for Bonestock 8 can be purchased at the door for $10 or in advance for $7. Advance tickets are available at the radio station and online.
